Model answers to important pass/fail questions with FE Colleges
What is safeguarding and what are your responsibilities?
Safeguarding is about keeping everyone safe within college and on any external visits. This includes the learners, staff and visitors.
If a learner were to come to you with a secret, then you have to tell them that you are not allowed to keep secrets and report any potential safeguarding concerns to the designated safeguarding lead.
What is PREVENT and what are your responsibilities?
PREVENT is the government’s strategy for combating terrorism and extremism. Any changes to a student’s behaviour, or concerning speech, indicative of terrorism or gang involvement, should be reported to the designated safeguarding lead.
What do you think are the boundaries for social media with learners?
I would always take the college’s lead with respect to social media. There should be very little need to contact students outside of official college channels. I would always be open and transparent with the college to ensure that I am beyond reproach and do not cause a safeguarding concern. [A similar answer can be given for socialising physically outside of college].
What are British Values?
Fundamental British Values underpin what it is to be a citizen in a modern and diverse Great Britain valuing our community and celebrating diversity of the UK. These values are Democracy, Rule of Law, Respect and Tolerance, Individual Liberty. All courses should consider promoting these values within the content of the course.
How do you promote Equality & Diversity in the college?
It is everyone’s responsibility to eliminate discrimination, harassment and violence while promoting equality of opportunity. I will ensure that I treat everyone with respect and foster good relationships with all staff and learners. Sometimes adjustments need to be made for equality of opportunity (such as providing support or equipment for a dyslexic learner).
